PROBIOTICS is one of the frequent words used in the food industry, especially with all the metabolic syndromes.
what is a PROBIOTIC? In a simple way, probiotics are good or helpful bacteria that keep the gut healthy and in turn, promotes a good digestive system in the body. Yogurt, buttermilk, homemade pickles, kimchi, cottage cheese, green peas, dark chocolate, tempeh, miso soup etc are few. Too much of probiotics is not healthy because it may cause bloating or some infections especially in people with some underlying health issues.
So to have the friendly bacterias probiotics are essential. But intake of probiotics as supplements is really bad. It's good as long as you can assimilate your needs from the food, that makes you healthier.
Being an Indian the best probiotic one could consume is the buttermilk. Buttermilk is also very good for absorption and helps in weight reduction. Ayurveda has mentioned taking buttermilk in diabetes, obesity, certain gastric conditions, also to hydrate and makes your body feel cool. Buttermilk mixed with medicines like 'panchakola churna', 'ashta churna' etc are used as treatments.
Buttermilk is made by churning the curd. Make it tastier by adding shallots, ginger, green chilli, curry leaves and blend well with little water. Finally, add a pinch of salt and sprinkle few coriander leaves. This makes it a perfect drink for a hot day with its property to energize your gut and also for a perfect weight loss regimen. Buttermilk is a good detox drink too.
